Hole #8 is our signature hole. Shooting over the natural area and onto the
fairway, or better yet, the green, is very satisfying.
The hole is beautiful to look at with the "wattle" fence of willows,
blocking the natural area to the grassy area home to red-winged blackbirds,
many ducks, salamanders and frogs, frogs, frogs! The pond also attracts the
neighbourhood purple martens, and tree swallows (these birds also help keep
the mosquito population down along with our nighttime visitors, brown bats).
The back tee is 155 yards out and the forward tee sits at 90 yards,
allowing a little less of the pond to get in your way.
The ideal shot, of course, is to the centre of the green, thus avoiding the
bunker on the left as well as the infamous "Big Daddy". This is the
much-talked-about sod-walled bunker. Rebuilt in 2009 it allows you to put
that 60 degree wedge to the test.
